Rioja wines are made from grapes grown in La Rioja and Navarre, and the Basque province of Álava in Spain. The earliest written evidence of the existence of the grape in La Rioja dates to 873. These wines were each aged in oak barrels for more than two years, and then aged in their bottles for more than three years before being released.
